The 2025 Airline Sleep Score Index
In-flight sleep has long been an overlooked aspect of passenger wellbeing, until now. With the release of the 2025 Airline Sleep Score Index, Sleepagotchi introduces the first comprehensive, data-led benchmark of how global airlines support passenger rest in the skies.
From seat measurements to circadian lighting systems, this ranking evaluates 50 of the world’s top carriers across four critical sleep-related categories.
Whether you're flying long-haul for business, commuting between hubs, or planning your dream escape, this index is designed to help travelers make more informed decisions based on one essential metric: sleep quality.

Calculation Methodology
The Sleep Score is a 100-point index calculated using a weighted model combining verified airline specifications, lighting innovation data, and public sentiment analysis. Each airline was evaluated using the following four components:
.jpg)
1. Seat Pitch (30% weight)
Measured in inches, this is the space between one seat and the seat in front of it — a key determinant of legroom and stretchability during rest.
2. Seat Width (30% weight)
Also measured in inches, seat width directly influences body comfort and ability to adopt sleep-friendly postures, especially on longer journeys.
3. Cabin Lighting Quality (20% weight)
Scores reflect the presence of circadian lighting technologies, dynamic dimming systems, and overall lighting ambience conducive to rest.
4. Social Sentiment (20% weight)
Passenger satisfaction scores were derived from both airline reviews and large-scale sentiment analysis of public conversations on social media platforms. Airlines with consistent complaints about noise, lighting, and sleep disruption scored lower.
Each score was normalized to a 10-point scale, then weighted and combined to produce the final ranking.
As a sleep-focused platform that gamifies better rest and wellness routines, Sleepagotchi is uniquely positioned to analyze how external environments like airplane cabins affect sleep quality.
With more than 1 million users already earning rewards for improving their sleep, we know from firsthand data that context matters. Travel, especially air travel, continues to be one of the biggest disruptors of healthy sleep routines. That’s why we created this index: to give flyers a clearer picture of how airlines are helping or hindering their ability to rest while in transit.
Key Takeaways from the
2025 Rankings
Singapore Airlines tops the list with a Sleep Score of 96.0, driven by generous seat dimensions, circadian-aware lighting, and consistently high passenger satisfaction.
Qantas, Air New Zealand, and Emirates follow closely, benefiting from major investments in lighting innovation, including Qantas’ “Project Sunrise” initiative.
Low-cost carriers like Ryanair and Wizz Air ranked near the bottom, with limited seat space, basic lighting, and overwhelmingly negative sentiment on sleep comfort. (Ryanair, in particular, received the lowest combined score of the index: a reminder that "budget" often means sacrificing rest.)
Cabin lighting is a competitive differentiator: airlines that have adopted sleep-supportive LED tech saw measurable scoring advantages.
